What an interesting afternoon (and lots of interesting noises to be heard!). After completing research on the digestive system this week, the class worked in pairs to create their own working model! They started with the banana and crackers in the ‘mouth’ with the saliva, then added the stomach acids and enzymes (orange juice) and used the ‘muscles’ to break up and mush up the food even more. This was then transferred to the ‘small intestine’ (a leg of tights) where all the nutrients were squeezed out into body on its way through (a particularly noisy part of the model making!) After this, we then moved onto the large intestine, where the body would take out the water and salt and start to solidify the waist, which children then pushed out the bottom of the cup ( perhaps the noisiest part of the model making!). They had lots of fun and there were a lot of good learning conversations 😀
