The Dogs Trust visited with the school. P4/5 had a workshop to learn about being safe around dogs and interacting with them in safe ways. Although some were disappointed not to have a dog in the class with the visitor, they listened really well, engaged in answering and asking lots of thoughtful questions and could tell me lots about it after :)

As part of our ‘How the Body Works’ learning, we have been focussed on the heart and the blood! Today, all of these super scientists worked together to make their own drop of blood. There were lots of excellent discussions about the different parts of the blood (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) and their function.
Lego Club and Puzzles! Lots of great learning going on: design, problem solving, social skills and teamwork as well as developing fine motor skills in their hands. They also had lots of fun 😄
Today, we have started to learn about Earthquakes. We looked briefly at how they happen and will come back to this later. Today, we wanted to create our own seismographs so we could measure a table quake and talk about the causes. We watched a short film on how to make a seismograph and then used the materials in our group to make our own. It involved lots of Teamwork Tommy skills and problem solving! It was a bit tricky to start with but then they tried a few things and were making great progress! Will be able to finish them next time :)
We have been learning about Volcanoes this week. We had a great discussion about what happens and facts about volcanoes and then worked with a partner to build our own. There was lots of fun painting it on the Friday and we look forward to erupting them next week!
