Drugs and Alcohol ?

4/2/2022

This week we had a visit from PC Harper, he came in to talk to us about Drugs and Alcohol.
He showed us different types of alcohol and other things that contained alcohol, such as mouthwash and hand sanitiser. He talked about how some alcohols can be eye catching because of their colour.
PC Harper asked some people to eat and drink certain things and then he breathalysed those people to see if what they had ate or drank contained alcohol.
The chocolate liqueur and mouthwash tested positive on the breathalyser.

Next PC Harper showed us different examples of drugs and cigarettes. He said if we ever saw any of these drugs we should let a trusted adult know and don’t touch it because it is more than likely carrying germs 🦠.

Burns Supper 2022

28/1/2022

This week we celebrated Robert Burns’ birthday! We made our own tartan placemats, learned poems, sang some songs and tried different Scottish themed foods.
We moved all the tables around in the class and made one long table and we all sat down either side of the tables. Before we ate our food someone said The Selkirk Grace and also someone read a Toast to a Haggis.

We tried Haggis, Vegetarian Haggis, tattles, neeps, tablet and shortbread and washed it all down with some Irn Bru.

We all had great fun and loved trying the different foods.

During the week there is a school breakfast club that some of us go to however on a Friday morning when we first get to school we have our own breakfast club. One table each week takes their turn of preparing the breakfast for the other tables. That means we have to make the toast then but butter and jam on it then pour the drinks of milk or water. It gives us a chilled start to the day unless you are making it then it can be very stressful! We hope it continues as it is really fun and it means if we sleep in and miss breakfast at home we get some here!

Health and Well-being

26/11/2021

This week in health and well-being we have been learning about being a good and bad winner and drugs and alcohol 🍺. We learned that if we shake hands at the end of a game and clapping the other team we would be good winners but if we make fun of the other team we would be bad winners. Hopefully this will help in our games in the playground.
In drugs and alcohol we learned that bad drugs like cocaine or other pills can ruined your life however good drugs from the doctor can help save your life and make us better. But you have to follow the directions and only take what you have been told .

Remembrance Day and Diwali

12/11/2021

This week we learned about Remembrance Day when we have a 2 minutes silence on 11th November because that was when World War 1 ended. We made poppy pictures with oil pastels and we wrote acrostic poems about the war using words that described the soldiers. We then made a Remembrance Day wall display with poppies, barbed wire and our poems and pictures.

A few weeks ago we looked at Diwali which is celebrated by Hindus. We made paper lanterns because it is the Festival of Lights.

At this weeks assembly Mr Guthrie was talking about COP26 and why we should recycle. We have been learning more about climate change when we watch newsround everyday.

This week in PE we started netball instead of hockey. First we learned different ways to throw a ball like chest pass, shoulder pass and bounce pass. After we played some netball games and we each marked just one person.

After school we have started an athletics club, run by Mr G the PE teacher for pupils in P6 and P7. We were running and learning how to pass the baton in relay races. We were also practicing our sprinting. Next week we will be passing a 12kg ball!

Over the last term we do Creativity Friday every Friday. We get to choose different activities like Lego, chess, iPads, hamma beads and painting. Our favourite activities were junk modelling and hamma beads. We can have more fun in these activities because it is different and we can choose the ones we want to do.
Next term we hope it continues and we would like to do more junk modelling and Lego.

At one of the stations we were to build a model with the base 10 cubes and after it was built we needed to count how much it was worth. My model was worth 1300 cubes!
At the domino station we took 6 dominos each and then in our jotter we made a chimney sum with them and we had to find the answer.
We have also had a chance to estimate how many steps it takes to get from one place to another.
The maths stations are helping me get better at my maths.

There is a station where we do work sheets with Mrs Dagg and I like that station the best because she helps me with my maths.
