P4/5 are continuing to look at a problem a week to develop problem solving skills and thinking mathematically. This week, we revisited a problem we completed earlier in the year and tried a follow up challenge. Children had to read and understand, then formulate a plan to check what amounts would work, making sure they could prove they did not leave any out. This called for working systematically which was a bit challenging!
As part of our science IDL, we have been focussing on thee states of matter: solids, liquids and gasses. In our last experiment, we made a gas and trapped it in a balloon! This time, we investigated the melting point of chocolate to introduce melting as a changing state and wrote our science reports.
More sharing today, developing listening and talking skills. We very much enjoyed seeing and hearing about the Pokémon.
P4/5 are becoming experts at their rotations, smoothly transitioning between each activity. This morning we had:
Weekend News- to write a personal recount or in imagined personal recount, including WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, thoughts and feelings and using adjectives effectively.
Finger Gym- developing fine motor skills and strength in hands to develop their grip and control of a pencil when writing.
Reading/ Partner Practice- reading new words with pace, using clues to understand new words, finding information to answer questions and using understanding of punctuation to read aloud with expression.
It was finally the day for the Ceilidh! Everyone has been working so hard over the last five weeks learning the six dances and it really paid off. They were all fantastic! They remembered the moves, took part in every dance with positivity and they were so respectful to themselves and each other, the other classes in the hall and the instructors. They also had great fun :) I could not be prouder of them, more importantly they should be proud of themselves.
P4/5 continuing to develop their confidence and listening and talking skills. Please keep bringing in things to share or a story to read :)
As part of our States of Matter IDL, P4/5 observed an experiment on Monday before working in teams to try it out for themselves! They were investigating a gas and making/trapping a gas. It involved great teamwork using the instructions to investigate themselves and excellent discussion about what they did, the reaction and their observations. Today we developed our scientific vocabulary writing up our reports!
Reviewed the Blue Strategies Cog today and children worked on creating a starter sharing card. They picked three emotions and then selected three strategies they could use for each. They were all very thoughtful and took time to really personalise this as they understand and respect that one strategy does not work for everyone or even for one person all the time.
In previous weeks, we have been developing our understanding of sentence structure and punctuation through Hold a Sentence activities. Today we started up-levelling a sentence instead. The children took a very boring sentence and added adjectives and changed the verb to make it much more interesting!
Finishing off our day with a quick play- as the children said, it was a good opportunity for them to practise their listening and talking skills and their social skills!
