P4/5 continuing to develop their confidence and listening and talking skills. Please keep bringing in things to share or a story to read :)

As part of our States of Matter IDL, P4/5 observed an experiment on Monday before working in teams to try it out for themselves! They were investigating a gas and making/trapping a gas. It involved great teamwork using the instructions to investigate themselves and excellent discussion about what they did, the reaction and their observations. Today we developed our scientific vocabulary writing up our reports!
Reviewed the Blue Strategies Cog today and children worked on creating a starter sharing card. They picked three emotions and then selected three strategies they could use for each. They were all very thoughtful and took time to really personalise this as they understand and respect that one strategy does not work for everyone or even for one person all the time.
In previous weeks, we have been developing our understanding of sentence structure and punctuation through Hold a Sentence activities. Today we started up-levelling a sentence instead. The children took a very boring sentence and added adjectives and changed the verb to make it much more interesting!
Finishing off our day with a quick play- as the children said, it was a good opportunity for them to practise their listening and talking skills and their social skills!
Lots of focus and concentration, teamwork, problem solving and numeracy skills in use! Today, children were developing understanding of place value, ordering non-consecutive numbers, developing basic math facts fluency, problem solving in Sudoku, taking part in a SUMDOG competition and much more!
P4/5 started their science IDL by looking at three different States of Matter. We role played atoms in a gas, a liquid and solid to support discussion about the properties of each. They then used this to sort different images into a solid, a liquid or a gas. There was a lot of confusion and good discussion around sand and sugar. Hopefully after the investigations, children will be able to say with confidence if sand/sugar is a solid or a liquid :)
Today, P4/5 reviewed the Behaviours Cog. We had a very thoughtful and productive discussion, using scenarios to think of emotion words and then sharing behaviours we or a person may feel like doing when experiencing that emotion. They then chose four to record their thoughts about out.
We have had a few stories brought in this week and children have read it to the class. Please keep bringing them in, or if you would like to bring in an item to share about, that’s great too :)
