We started a our week by creating some instruments exploring different sounds using the Generation Science box we received. Each school received one free box of generation science equipment this year, we were lucky enough to get this for our class. We made a seagull squeaker and a shaker. This was great fun exploring how simple objects can make a range of sounds. To celebrate the Queens Jubilee and decorate the school we made some Union Jack bunting. Last week the children also used pointillism to created portraits of the queen. Mrs Russell did a fabulous job of this with the children and Mrs Ivalo has been busy decorating the school with everyone’s creations. We have been looking at fairytales within writing. What do all good fairy tales have….. a dragon! Check out are amazing artistic dragons, created using paint and bubble wrap. Sports Day Sports day on Thursday was fantastic, it was amazing to see so many parents their to support the children. Mr G did an amazing job organising and running the event. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves throughout the day, taking part in the races in the morning and potted sports in the afternoon. Well done to all the children who demonstrated brilliant sportsmanship cheering each other on and trying their very best throughout. Congratulations to the winners of the races! Finally I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to help at the big dig on Friday. It’s safe to say team P2/3 was out in force and out an absolute shift in, digging, building and pitching in where they could. It was amazing to see everyone working so hard to better out woodland space. Keep your eyes peeled for the next date.

This week had been walk to school week. On Tuesday we learned about being safe and unsafe when travelling and crossing the road. We talked about different types of crossings. Tuesday was also Shoesday, we wore our favourite shoes to school. Check out some of the awesome shoes and even better poses. This week we started a block of music sessions with Mrs Rowan from YMI (youth music initiative). We sang a new hello song, learned the words to la cucaracha and started to learn how to hold and strum a ukulele. We look forward to our next session in a couple of weeks time.
This week we had 2 visits. Laura Cassidy came to speak to the class all about friends. We talked about people who are close to us like family, friends, acquaintances and people who are paid to be in our lives like teachers etc… it was a very interesting session and got us all thinking. We also had a visit from Rachael from the Dogs Trust. We learned about dog safety. All children listened so well in the gym hall and learned some valuable lessons to keep us safe around dogs. This week we also explored posing in to express different emotions through looking at a huge picture from Abbotsford. We also made a harp using a box and elastic bands. This again was based on our Abbotsford work. We learned that a harp has 9 pedals and 47 strings. Abbotsford has 2 harps in the house that belonged to Sir Walter Scott. All the children completed and brought home their amazing swords and shields. Check out our poses with them below.
This we we had a special performance in the hall for all classes from Shooglenifty. They played us some of their music and the children all had a dance. Our class were joined by P3/4 and P6/7 for the performance. It was lovely to see the older boys and girls dancing and interacting with the younger children.
We continued our work around Abbotsford this week learning more about knights and jousting. We labelled the features of a knights armour and made our own so words and shields. We looked at some designs for our shields, drew them and painted them. Some of the children added pictures of animals to their shields. We still have some finishing touches and handles to add but I’m sure you’ll agree that these look fantastic. This week we were learning about the clothes and fashion from when Sir Walter Scott was alive. We discussed the colours, accessories, dresses and knights. We created our own dolls that we can change their outfits.
We continued to work on place value in numeracy and we’re learning the ‘ea’ sound in literacy. The children all worked amazingly this week completing their reading and spelling tests. They all did brilliantly. |
