Indi, Abbotsford, Tatties

This week we found out we are going to get some seed potatoes home to grow. These will be given out as soon as the soil (growing medium) arrives. Children can bring in a plastic bag to take the growing medium and potatoes home.

We have been working on extending our number knowledge this week working with bigger numbers and separating these into ones and tens. In reading and phonics we have been looking at the ‘ph’ and ‘ay’ sounds, throughout the week we had a spelling test and have been practising for a reading test next week.

Continuing to look at Abbotsford we look at Sir Walter Scott’s writing box this week. We then created our own mini boxes that could be used to keep little trinkets in. One of the children suggested keeping the toadstone we made in them.

It was our final week working with Mr Graham, using Indi. This has been brilliant fun. Videos and photos below show how much we have learned over the last few sessions.

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all have a lovely time.

This week we have looked at the ‘wh’ sound in literacy. In reading we have been working on our comprehension skills and reading for information within a text. In numeracy we continued our work on money looking at finding change. We used number lines to count on or backwards to solve our problems.

Continuing our Learning about Abbotsford house we looked at a special silver dish that had been gifted to Sir Walter Scott named a Salver. This had been gifted to him by John Ballantyne a bookseller who Sir Walter was friends with. On this salver Walter Scott’s coat of arms had been engraved. We created our own coats of arms to represent who we are. We tried to include some of our favourite things and colours within them.
We had our third Sphero Indi session this week. We played a hide and seek style game where we had to create a code with something wrong and then our partner had to try to fix/spot what was wrong. the children are really enjoying taking part in these. We have one more left after the holidays.
The class have really enjoyed reading "Quel Temps Fait - Il, Berthe?" to practise describing the weather in French. The class can do actions to show each weather phrase and sound effects and might even be able to join in with the story-teller.
