We regularly use our construction area to complete learning activities and challenges. This includes using Lego, Duplo, Megablocks and wooden blocks. Here are some of our masterpieces from this year so far: Here are some resources which we have used to inspire our learning:

We were lucky enough to have pupils from P5/6 come to visit us and read the Christmas story. They had created their very own big book to share with us.
The pupils had a brilliant afternoon at their Christmas party today. We did lots of dancing and played lots of games such as musical statues and pass the parcel. The pupils enjoyed their Party snack too. The majority of the crisps, sweets, juice and plastic cups were donated by Booker Cash and Carry so we are very grateful for their generosity.
We have been very creative linking our learning to Christmas this week. We have used Lego and pegboards to develop fine motor skills by making Christmas pictures. We have also been working on Christmas dot to dot’s to work on numbers to 100, colour by shape activities and cut and stick activities too. Mrs Gray organised a very fun reindeer art activity where the pupils made a reindeer tree decoration to take home. The pupils will bring the rest of their brilliant work home on the last day of term as it is currently decorating our classroom.
This You Tube clip has the recent songs we have been learning to support our phonics (y, x, ch, sh, th/th) :

We have been looking for them and learning how to recognise them, name them and describe them correctly. We have been learning vocabulary such as: - sides - corners - straight lines - curved lines - same/equal length - different length The shapes we have learned are: - circle - triangle - square - rectangle - semi-circle - pentagon - hexagon - octagon and we looked at heptagons too. We took part in a wide range of activities to help us learn about shapes: We continue to work on learning, ordering and recognising numbers. We are working on numbers to 100 and the kids love singing along to this song:

We have started learning some sounds from group 5 and 6 (Primary 2 pupils had already covered these) but we will recap these as a class after the Christmas holidays. Below are some great You Tube videos which talk you through the books: Group 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpl6Thbvw1k Group 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwvlrBD99LA Group 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je4rTtCYfl0 Group 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUy7JaQt1Q8 Group 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GDVxMB-8IM Group 6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scFdAxqPt68 We have been working really hard to learn tricky words. These are words which we can not "sound out" using phonics, but instead need to read and recognise that they are a bit different. We have used these videos to help our learning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY We have also been busy making tricky words paper chains which will be sent home next week. Here is a link to the resource if you would like to make more at home.
