P3/4 have been celebrating Math Week in style!
Math trails and various activities have been sent home as fun tasks for to be completed with adults. We have also been entered into a Sumdog maths competition so all children have their log on details stuck to their reading records and are encouraged to play math games on this site every evening throughout this week.
In school we have been doing lots of math activities and have pictures below of us all working in teams to solve a tricky word problem.
I think it is fair to say P3/4 are multitalented magnificent maths magicians!
Yesterday our trip to Harestanes was cancelled because of the weather, it was really rainy!
In the morning we completed a Lego challenge. We built a cinema, beach, helicopter, ice-cream sundae, a pool, robot, Spongebob and a restaurant.
Later on we made some leaves for the window. This is part of our topic.
In the afternoon we had a cinema afternoon and we watched Despicable Me 3. It was funny.
It was a super fun day! We were disappointed that the trip was cancelled but we didn't want to go in the rain! Hopefully this will be rearranged for next week.
On Tuesday we had a special visitor at the school. When he was talking to us he got a call on his radio telling him that he was needed to go to a fire! Hopefully we can get to hear their stories next time...
On Wednesday we had Sports Day. It was really fun. In the morning we competed in races and we all did really well. In the afternoon we had potted sports - we were split in to our different houses and then in to smaller groups.
We have been working really hard on our play and we are starting to get tired. Hopefully we will have the energy on our final performances!! We will be trying on outfits soon and will start feeling more like our characters.
On Monday afternoon we had a visitor to the school, author Matthew Fitt. We learned about being Scots and talking and reading in Scots. He read wee fairytale stories and The Gruffalo in Scots. We all loved it!!
In writing we have been creating stories using photo prompts, this week it was a monkey and a key. We enjoyed writing different stories about the monkey.
In maths this week we have started looking at data handling. We have been looking at tally marks, sorting data in tables and pictograms.
On Tuesday lunchtime, we had a dancing lesson. Norrie taught us how to do Zumba. We had a lot of fun but it was very hot and tiring!!
In art this week, we have been inspired by a book brought in by K. We have been making some super scratch art pictures. We hope that we can make some at home...
In our play topic we have started to act on stage and perform without our words.
This week we have been practising our lines from our play and all of our songs. We have learnt some of them off by heart already. We hope that we continue to be really good and have a great performance.
We have been looking at the backgrounds for the stage and designed a forest back drop. We also looked at different outfits for our dragon and princess characters.
Mr Guthrie gave us a task this week during assembly. We had to draw a butterfly 4 times. Every day we gave a partner feedback on what mistakes they make and how they could correct it. We will show pictures next week, we hope you can see improvement throughout the days.
This week we welcomed a new pupil to our class. :)
Yesterday we spent some time listening to instructions and creating different dance moves. We were creating rockets, aliens and astronauts moves.
In our health and wellbeing lesson with Miss Moffat we have been learning about medication. Learning not to take them if we don't need them and to be careful to not leave them lying about. Tablets that are not your own tablets can make you more ill.
This week we have started to learn our new songs for our play. We will have a lot of practising to do over the next few weeks. Our favourite song is Living in a Fariytale.
In spelling we have really enjoyed writing our spelling words in rainbow writing.
'P3/4 hope you have a lovely holiday!
A photo of Mother's Day monsters made by the P3/4's in the Textile group.
We watched a Blue Alien short video and we made our own stories and diary entries. Our favourite part of the movie was the alien jumping down the toilet.
In our space topic we have been watching different clips about how astronauts live in space. There is no gravity in space and we really enjoyed watching one of the astronauts fly around the space shuttle. We would love to try it!! We have designed our own rockets this week, metal and big rockets that carry all the gas and fuel were very popular designs.
In maths we have been learning about time. We have been looking at o'clock, half hour, quarter to and past, seasons and calendars.
Hello and welcome to our P3/4 blog.
