Science!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about forces and carrying out some experiments. Before Christmas we were learning about gravity and forces, we have a good understanding of what forces are and how they affect objects. Since returning back after the Christmas holidays we have been busy learning about air resistance and water resistance. As part of this topic work the children made simple parachutes to see which would fall the slowest and create the more air resistance. Kory-Taylor and Lewis managed to create the slowest parachute. We had loads of fun dropping them from the second floor down to the reception area.
This week we learned about water resistance and creating streamlined shapes to move through the water quicker. To test this we built boats from junk materials, we then tested if they could float and made any adjustments, then we set sail! We timed how long it took for the boat to cross from one side of the tough tray to the other. Some successfully made it all the way across, others half way and unfortunately some sunk. We learned lots from this experiment and discussed what was good about our boat designs or how they could be improved.

We have also been learning about decimals in maths. Miss Notman is so pleased with how much they have remembered from last year. The children are all enjoying maths and challenging themselves.

Below are some pictures (not sure the children want them on here) that Ava and the other pupils took after she took photographs of the experiment. :)
