Spooky Scary Skeletons

On Thursday we went on a school trip and we went to two things - The Portrait Gallery and Edinburgh Dungeons. We went on the bus with the P6/7s. On the way home we had a little bit of a singsong at the back of the bus.

We went to the Portrait Gallery. We learnt about photography as we went to look at a photo exhibition. We dressed up in costumes, such as waistcoats, wigs and hats. Sam took a photo of us and then we had to change our pose or choose an object and she took another photo. She then layered the two photographs together to make collage (double exposure). We learnt about what positive and negative are when it comes to photos, positive is colour and negatives are when the photo is on the film and it is black and white. We had some pictures and paper and we made a collage. We used some plastic to create different layers to make a picture. The photo album will be finished in class and some of the pages will be popped up on the blog later.

First, we got our photos taken at the Dungeon. We pretended to kill each other. We went in to court and some people where convicted of crimes. Then we went in another room and there was a witch in the corner and one of the parent helpers had to go in the middle and she got the witch's mark. The room started to spin around!! We went in to other rooms but we will not tell you what as we do not want to ruin the experience. However, it was very scary!! The Dungeons were horrifying, but we learnt about past history in Scotland, that we would hope would never EVER happen again! The actors were amazing and scary and we will be remembering them when we start our performances of The Jungle Book.

Scottish Maths Week

7/10/2019

We have been working really hard on Sumdog and we took part in the Scottish Maths Week challenge. We had to complete 1000 questions and get as many right as we could. There were about 6000 teams entered, this is our leader board score - 1089th!
Mrs Jessamine would like us to create a wall display that welcomes pupils and visitors in to our school. We thought a tree design would look great in the entrance hall and we have been creating ideas for this.

We have created Egyptian collars this week and decorated them with gems. We made sure the colours are bright and colourful to look like beads and gems. The finished collars look really good.

Egypt

We have been learning about the Egyptians and we have learned about how they have been mummified and how they were put in tombs. We were using clay to make pyramids and then we made mummies and wrapped them with linen (plaster cast). We made our own sarcophagus' out of card - we then put in our mummies.

We created our own cartouches and we wrote our names in hieroglyphics in them. We learned about the Eye of Horus and that it is important because it guarded away bad and evil spirits so they could go to the After Life. We have also created Pharaoh's crowns and had great fun dancing to Egyptian songs. The snake at the top of the crown kept away bad spirits also. We found out the snake would spit out poison if needed protected.
