We have been doing some STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths!). We looked at how to create structures which are strong enough to ensure an earthquake. We use marshmallows and cocktail sticks and then we put them to the test! Some buildings were more successful than others! But that is all a part of our learning! We have also been looking at Tsunamis and how the landscape can be affected when an area is hit with one. We built 'flimsy' paper houses and carried out an experiment to see how easily the 'village' would be torn apart. Then, we decided on a stronger building material (Lego!). We built suitable Lego houses and we are testing these in the next few days! I hope our villages can stand up to a big tsunami! In health and well being, we continue to work on our resilience, perseverance and self-esteem. We always want to be the best version of ourselves but we must remember our talents and what makes us unique and special! We created self-esteem wheels to help us achieve our goals. Because we are learning about natural disasters and we have been learning about tsunamis recently, we did some art around 'The Great Wave of Kanagawa" by Hokusai. We learnt about his masterpiece, found out facts about the artist and created our own version of The Great Wave, using pencils, fine liners and crayons. We are so proud of our work!
