P4/5 developing their problem solving skills and teamwork skills when working in groups to create a model cinema. They used images of early cinema buildings and set ups to create a model and compare it to their own experiences of the cinema. I’m very excited to see these finished :)

P5 Countryside Day Prep

11/5/2022

The P5s got together today to prepare a poster for the Countryside Day next week. They worked in partners or small groups to research impacts of deforestation, why it is important, the impacts we can have on the land and how we can help. Next, they used this information to inform their poster, trying to strike a balance of writing in words and images. Everyone worked really well together, lots of good teamwork.

The P4s spent a fun afternoon completing activities with Mrs Angus.

After creating our salvers, children had an opportunity to share them with each other. Each person had a chance to share what images they chose for their Coat of Arms and why, and they all had to be a quality audience for each other.

We have been using paintings/pictures, PowerPoint information and the search on our IPADs to find out about Sir Walter Scott. Using the information gathered, everyone has been working very hard on creating their own PowerPoint to share their learning. We look forward to sharing these when they are finished.

Everyone brought in their favourite books from home or picked their favourite in the classroom. They enjoyed the chance to share their favourites and find out about others. Then, everyone worked in pairs to create an iMovie trailer for a book. The results were marvellous, lots of great language choices :)

The Digestive System

23/2/2022

What an interesting afternoon (and lots of interesting noises to be heard!). After completing research on the digestive system this week, the class worked in pairs to create their own working model! They started with the banana and crackers in the ‘mouth’ with the saliva, then added the stomach acids and enzymes (orange juice) and used the ‘muscles’ to break up and mush up the food even more. This was then transferred to the ‘small intestine’ (a leg of tights) where all the nutrients were squeezed out into body on its way through (a particularly noisy part of the model making!) After this, we then moved onto the large intestine, where the body would take out the water and salt and start to solidify the waist, which children then pushed out the bottom of the cup  ( perhaps the noisiest part of the model making!). They had lots of fun and there were a lot of good learning conversations 😀
