'P3/4 hope you have a lovely holiday!
A photo of Mother's Day monsters made by the P3/4's in the Textile group.
We watched a Blue Alien short video and we made our own stories and diary entries. Our favourite part of the movie was the alien jumping down the toilet.
In our space topic we have been watching different clips about how astronauts live in space. There is no gravity in space and we really enjoyed watching one of the astronauts fly around the space shuttle. We would love to try it!! We have designed our own rockets this week, metal and big rockets that carry all the gas and fuel were very popular designs.
In maths we have been learning about time. We have been looking at o'clock, half hour, quarter to and past, seasons and calendars.
We have been making a planet mobile this week. We were learning about the order of the planets - started with the star The Sun, then Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and then Neptune. We have been looking at the different sizes, colours and moons of all the different planets. We have also designed our own planets.
In Maths we have been completing sums with borrowing and carrying, it is not easy! We will be having more practice on this. Also in Maths we have been learning about time. We will look more at time in the next couple of weeks.
In Writing, we have been researching different facts about planets and then we made diagrams for this. We also watched a very sad story about Laika the astronaut dog. A few people cried :( . We wrote our own animal space stories after that.
We have worked really hard over the last couple of weeks and we have 3253 Dojo points for the whole class!!
On Monday morning we went to Galashiels Library. We looked at talking books, fiction and non-fiction books and the index book to help us find different books. After that we took part in a quiz. The winners got 8 out of 9 questions! Great work!!
Monday was comic day and we looked at Pokemon comic magazines. We then made our own Pokemon characters. On Monday afternoon we used Super Action Comic Maker to help us design our own superhero comics.
On Tuesday we continued to look at comics and picture books. We finished the day making a comic strip using superheroes that we designed. We also had great fun making superhero masks for us to wear in class. On Tuesday afternoon we read in groups with the P5 class. We enjoyed this and would like to do more.
On Wednesday we looked at Fairytale books. We spent time reading the book Aladdin and creating different tasks for the book. On Wednesday afternoon we read the book The Tunnel. We made our own tunnel stories.
On Thursday it was World Book Day. We loved it! We dressed up as book characters or in our PJs. We read Cat in the Hat and looked for different rhyming words. We then made our own books and wrote stories about Thing One and Thing Two. They are very naughty and mischievous. In the afternoon it was a whole school open afternoon. We did a scavenger hunt at the end of the day.
On Friday we all went to different classes to read different Julia Donaldson books.
Feedback for the week - "I loved this week." "All thumbs up." "It was really fun." "It was my favourite week." "I would like to do it every month."
We have started to look at Space for our topic this term.
We have made a sun to display in class. We have also been making our own astronauts. We have been learning about the different planets - the names and colours. In writing we have been writing about our own space adventures.
In maths we have been looking at arrays to help us with our multiplications. We have also been designing our own towns and looking at different compass directions.
Miss Wilson brought in a new game for us to play. We need to stack the chairs and try and make the tallest chair tower.
Next week is World Book Day and we are having a full week of reading activities...
