In VCOP P3 have been learning about nouns, you can see a selection of the class’ learning below. We have remembered to use capital letters for proper nouns.
We have also been looking at adjectives to make our nouns more interesting.
We have started to look at verbs and have done well identifying the doing words from a story.
In literacy we have discussed in groups how we thought James and the Giant Peach would end and came up with our own success criteria for us to then write our own endings. We needed to think of the characters, what happens next in the story and where does it happen.
We have been looking at newspapers and their features. Looking at the ending of James and the Giant Peach we came up with the following headlines -
- “Is it a bomb?”
- “The giant thing”
- “The peach broke”
- “Will it explode?”
- “What is that ball?”
- “What is on the skyscraper?”
In IDL we have finished or topic by looking at how seeds grow. We looked at our bean seeds everyday to see how they were growing. We found it interesting how the bean shell grew up with the shoot and the roots ended up like worms along the bottom.
Our new IDL topic is Toys. We have been learning how to play respectfully and learning new board/card games (snap, marbles, draughts, Ludo).
We have discussed the difference between a toy and a game and know that we usually need to compete with someone to try and win the game, there are also rules to follow.
We have discussed toys that we play with and compared them to the toys our parents used to play with. We found out that most toys our parents played with are still around today and found Furbys rather amusing- thanks K’s mum for sharing!!
We have also been discussing Victorian toys and how some are still around today like dolls, dolls houses, building bricks and toy soldiers. We created our own thaumatrope, which is an optical illusion toy. Some of us enjoyed it that much that they made about 5!! They showed some great designer skills.
We really enjoyed playing with our Minion jigsaws so we created our own. We said we needed to think of our drawings, colours used, size of pieces and the size and shape of our final jigsaws. We realised they can be quite difficult to make and need to think about the size of the pieces next time!
In maths we have been revising place value using units, tens, hundreds and thousands.
In French we have been learning about family members. We have been playing naughts and crosses games and created our own snap jigsaw game to show the French words for people in our family. For example mon père is my dad.
For Walk to School week the JRSO’s gave us a design challenge to do - create our own trainer designs.
In PE we have been practicing our athletic skills for sports day. Here is a photo of us practicing for the long jump.
Pictures of our sports day quiz and sportsperson portraits, Usain Bolt and Sammie Kinghorn (local sportsperson).
We have been listening to drawing instructions for Creativity Friday and creating our own toy boxes and Lego figures.
We have been busy completing our homework tasks:
Some photos of our free time over the last few weeks.
We were a bit disappointed that we didn’t see the solar eclipse today but Miss Wilson showed us how to create a pin hole viewer for the next time we can view one.
