On Monday we wrote our own stories about a space adventure. We watched The Pink Panther for inspiration and came up with our own word bank to help us. Some of the words we used were; ............. spaceship, aliens, jet pack, planets, teleporting, robots, planets, trapped, saving the world, rescue, disguised, flying, craters, engine, meteors, villain...... We discussed Stir Up Sunday, a date in the diary to start making Christmas Puddings so they taste yummy for Christmas. Some of the class wanted to go home and ask their parents if they could make their own! Here are some calorie free collage puddings..... Some of the class wanted to share their work; we have been working on addition to 20, 50 or 100 this week, block graphs and mental maths. For Health and Well-being this week we read the book Odd Dog Out. We discussed that it was ok to be different from others in your class and what these differences could be (hair colour, height, skin colour, if good at maths or not...). We designed our own characters for the book. Like in the Look Up book (from book week), we discussed what we would take into space with us. We filled our rucksacks with ten things. During Creativity Friday last week we created clay diyas for Diwali. This week we painted them and hopefully they are being used with tea lights at home. In writing we have been looking at acrostic poems. As a class we decided we would pick Saturn for the topic of our poem. Here is our class poem and a photo of M’s creative work. Stars are far away. And Saturn is too. The sixth planet from the sun. Up in the sky you can see Saturn. Rings of rocks and ice. November you can see me clearly. With Miss Stirling this week we have been creating our own alien pictures. J wanted to show his picture of the class and his astronaut that he drew during Creativity Friday this week.

Today we have been looking at some tricky words in spelling and picked bubble writing or rainbow writing to help us.
In maths, we have been identifying 3D shapes, A prism is a new shape that we have been learning about. In topic, we have been making our own 3D rocket after watching a Space Shuttle launch video. Here is a photo of our work. Miss Wilson is really impressed with our cutting skills and problem solving when we were building our 3D rockets. O wanted to share his Space picture that he created in his free time this week. We used our knowledge about shapes to create our own shape rockets this afternoon. Some of the class wanted to share their creations. We are ready to travel to the moon!
In ICT, we used a search engine to look at images of the moon, Jupiter, galaxies, Mercury and Neptune. Today we have started our Festivals topic and we have been looking at Apple Day - the day where we celebrate apples. We learnt about windfalls - where apples end up falling off the trees and on to the ground ready to eat. We need to check them incase there are any sleepy wasps needing last minute sugar. We also know we need to cut off any bruises and wash the apples before we cook or eat them. Here are some of our paintings of apples from this morning. Here is a recipe to try apple crumble and stewed apples at home (Miss Wilson likes to add lots of nutmeg and cinnamon to her’s): https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/best-apple-crumble https://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/stewed-apples In our space topic we have been learning that the moon orbits the Earth and both of them orbits the sun. We were very enthusiastic about the sun and asked lots of questions about it! We watched a video showing us how huge the sun is compared to Earth and we cannot believe it is so big! We also looked up how hot the sun is..... it’s core is 15 million degrees Celsius! Galashiels was 9oC today, Lava gets to about 1200oC and the surface of the sun is about 5500oC.
This morning we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have looked at cubes, cuboids, cylinders, spheres, pyramids, prisms and cones. We enjoyed looking around the classroom and outside in the playground for the different shapes. We unfortunately could not find a pyramid - until after lunch! The nursery has a tepee!! See our slideshows below - the first one has cubes and cuboids, the second has spheres, cylinders and cones. We have started our new topic of space this week. We would like to learn about:
We watched a video from the International Space Station and really enjoyed it (it was cool....). |
