Today we have started our Festivals topic and we have been looking at Apple Day - the day where we celebrate apples. We learnt about windfalls - where apples end up falling off the trees and on to the ground ready to eat. We need to check them incase there are any sleepy wasps needing last minute sugar. We also know we need to cut off any bruises and wash the apples before we cook or eat them. Here are some of our paintings of apples from this morning. Here is a recipe to try apple crumble and stewed apples at home (Miss Wilson likes to add lots of nutmeg and cinnamon to her’s): https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/best-apple-crumble https://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/stewed-apples In our space topic we have been learning that the moon orbits the Earth and both of them orbits the sun. We were very enthusiastic about the sun and asked lots of questions about it! We watched a video showing us how huge the sun is compared to Earth and we cannot believe it is so big! We also looked up how hot the sun is..... it’s core is 15 million degrees Celsius! Galashiels was 9oC today, Lava gets to about 1200oC and the surface of the sun is about 5500oC.
