During our work on our Story of The Week this week (Elmer the Elephant) we had lots of discussions about being unique and talked about everyone being different. This led to some lovely writing about what makes us different and how we are the same .
We coloured in our own elephants later in the week with lots of different patterns and colours. This week our story of the week was one of our favourites The Gruffalo. During the week we sequenced the story and enjoyed making some Gruffalo masks and puppets.
With Mr Aitkin we were focusing on the emotion of sadness. We discussed what makes us feel sad and listened to a story. The story was When Sadness Comes to Call by Eva Eland We then made our own sadness bubbles just like in the story. Our story of the week this week has been The Disgusting Sandwich. We had great fun exploring this story. We started by sequencing the story. We then designed and drew our favourite sandwich or one we would like to try. Finally we ventured out into the woodland to find some ingredients for our disgusting sandwiches. This included mud, leaves, stones…..even a worm! We had a blast creating our disgusting sandwiches and decided that they were far too disgusting to eat 😂
Our Story of the Week this week was A Monsters Surprise. We listened to the story in class and sequenced the story picture into the correct order. On Thursday we made some monster masks, the children where too excited to take these home that We never got the chance to take any pictures of them.
Our emotion works focus this week was all about the yellow cog -triggers. We identified things that can make us feel happy, sad, angry and scared. Mr Aitkin continued this work with the class on Thursday using the story Grumpy Monkey and writing triggers for anger on bananas. This week our story of the week was The Runaway Pea. During the week we listened and discussed the story. We made our own mini books to help us retell the story. On Thursday we made our own peas using paint, paper plates and cardboard.
In our class area we have created a nice calm corner, where children can go to practise using emotion works to regulate their emotions.
This week we looked at the story of Mr Jelly and his body sensations when he felt scared. We then created some of our own Mr Men and Little Miss character and discussed their different emotions. The week has gone by so quickly. We continue to work on Emotion Works in class. This week we read the story 'I Love You Blue Kangeroo'
We focused on the orange cog - emotion words. Naming Blue Kangeroo's feelings throughout the story. We also introduced our new emotion works calm space in our learning area. Thank you to all of you who came along to Meet the Teacher on Thursday. It was lovely to get the chance to speak to you all. Over the last week we have really enjoyed using our outdoor space and woodland area as part of our learning. The children have all been playing so nicely with the resources and working together along with the P1s.
