We’ve had lots of fun learning about Scotland this term. Our topic so far has included a Scottish tea party which the children asked for and helped to plan. They wrote menus and invitations and then tasted some of the food they requested - salmon, lamb and venison and among other things - before some impromptu Scottish dancing with Mr Guthrie!
Miss Stirling arranged for a bagpiper to come to play for all of the P1 children. It was louder than expected but the children enjoyed it!
Mrs Gaffney has been looking at Scottish art with the children such as Steven Brown’s McCoos.
We’re now moving on to look at Scottish weather and how water changes into ice (we’re secretly hoping it will get colder for our experiments!).
As usual, if you have anything you want to discuss we're around at the end of the day.
We’ve had a busy week this week with Book Week Scotland. Each child has been given three books: One Button Benny, Eric Makes a Splash and I am Bat. The children voted for their favourite with One Button Benny just winning!
We used Eric Makes a Splash as inspiration to discuss our own worries, and talked about how everyone worries about something. As well as reading the books ourselves we watched videos of them being read by the authors.
Today the children have all taken book bags home with the three books. Feel free to share a selfie of you/your child reading the books on the school Facebook page!
