When we are learning to read and to spell, we work on recognising the first, middle or end sound in a 3 letter word. The pupils have loved playing this game in class recently:

We have continued to work with P1 on Monday afternoons to take part in PE activities and Outdoor learning. We are now using balance bikes as well as 2 wheeled scooters and the 3 wheeled scooters to develop our balancing and steering skills. The children are really good at looking up to see where they are going so we have started adding in cones to go round too. We have been talking about how the weather affects the ground so we have to be more careful when the ground is wet and we have to look out for slippy leaves.
The class have now learned and worked on all of their initial sounds and are starting to work on sounds which are made using 2 letters. So far we have worked on qu, ch, sh and th.
We have been using Jolly Phonics songs and stories to help us with these sounds. Here are some You Tube clips which can support your child with their phonics: Alphabetic order Jolly Phonics songs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvRKcch4DyE "ch" sound song repeated - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbWlNxnLl5g "ch" sound song and "ch" words - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiT2nd4GJJQ |
