Home Learning Update

Hello Primary Ones
By now you have received two home learning packs full of jobs to help you practice  those skills we have been learning in class. You also have a jotter and a letter with information about how to access on line learning.

This information is about accessing Glow which is an online platform used for education in Scotland. It includes email and access to Microsoft Office. If you can access at home please do so with the help of an adult. In your pack you will have your Glow email address and also your password on a strip of paper.

Also in your pack is information about the P1 class Microsoft Team (can be accessed on phone, laptop or tablet), this is a place where we can share home learning ideas, contact each other and share what you have been doing at home.

On a Monday there will be a Home Learning Grid uploaded to Teams and here on the class blog. This will include 3 pieces of learning for each numeracy, literacy and health and wellbeing together with other activities you can do at home if you have the time.

For these pieces of learning you will have the opportunity to share your learning with us via Teams or email; more information will follow next week on how to do this.

Now you know I am not the best at all of this technical "IT stuff" but I have managed to set up a Teams page for P1 and had a Teams staff meeting with all the teachers at Langlee.  Yes me! So if this is all a bit tricky to set up, I know how it feels but please get in touch and if I can't help, I certainly know other teachers who can.

Looking forward to learning together on line.

Mrs Hamilton

Hello P1 families.  Well this is certainly topsy turvey, inside out, upside down and back to front as we say in P1 when things change or are a bit different.  Learning at home instead of at school is certainly one of those occasions.  We know how you like to be busy and this is your chance to shine and impress all the grown ups with your amazing skills and talents by trying some of these activities which we hope will be fun and help with your learning.

Literacy
  • Look around the home to find items that rhyme and make a list.
  • Revising Jolly Phonics sounds and actions by using  https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/jolly-phonics/
  • Reading a story with a grown up before bed every night. Try and retell the story in your own words.
  • Use toys or puppets to make up your own story.
  • Practice your tricky words, recognising them in your stories and saying them. You can check these in your home learning pack.
  • Play I-spy.
  • Draw a picture of yourself and your family. Can you write  their names?
Numeracy
  • Count to 30 like we do in class using the tap. Can you whisper your odd and even numbers? How about to 100 in tens and fives?
  • Practice writing your numbers to 20.
  • Practice the days of the week and months of the year.
  • Using your number lines to recognise and order numbers and to add two numbers together.
  • Count items that are in your home.  How many unicorns do you have? How many steps from the kitchen to the living room?
  • Recognising the different coins we have learned about in class. Which ones can you buy more with?
  • Can you see any 2D or 3D shapes at home and remember what they are called?
Other
  • Have a go at doing some jigsaws or playing board games with the family.
  • Sing some of the songs and rhymes you know from school.
  • Use your recycling to do some junk modelling. What can you make?
  • Help to make or bake something in the kitchen or help with digging and planting in the garden.
  • Make a paper aeroplane and see how far it will go.
  • Learn to draw lots of different  things with the help of Art for Kids Hub on You Tube.
  • Learn to tie your shoelaces and practice those tricky zips.
We will be thinking about you all.  Have fun and stay safe.
