Return to School 11th August 2020 COVID 19 Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

With the pupils returning to school next week and with guidance on how that is to be organised and managed being updated frequently we are only now able to try and answer some of the questions you may have regarding this. We will outline some of the plans below although there may well be changes to these before the pupils return and over the next days and weeks as the situation changes.

  • The school day will remain unchanged. 8.45-3.15
  • Primary 1 pupils will start at 9.00 in the first week in order for them to have more time and space to enter the building and establish routines.
  • All pupils will return on a full time basis unless a phased return for some individual pupils has been discussed and organised.
  • Pupils should wear school uniform as normal.
  • Paths and playground spaces will be marked with direction arrows to try to help keep distance between people. Please follow these as best as you can.
  • Each class will have a space where they are to line up. These will be marked on the playground. At the end of the day, we ask that you wait beside the marked line for your child’s class and the teachers will bring the children out to you.
  • The area around the end of the bridge should be kept completely clear.
  • The advice we have been given is that parents and carers should not gather outside or inside the school grounds and that 2m social distancing is maintained.
  • There will be no access to the school building for parents and carers. If you need to speak to someone we ask that you contact the office.
  • Breakfast club will NOT be running for the first two weeks of term.
  • PE will be outdoors only. Children should come dressed appropriately ready for gym outdoors on timetabled days – not requiring uniform that day to reduce changing of clothes. There will be no PE the first week back and we will let you know the day which your child has PE.
  • Pupils should bring a full water bottle and a snack. If they have their own pencil case etc. they can bring those but we will supply everything they need in school. P6 and P7 pupils should bring their iPads every day.
  • Hand sanitiser points will be located at each entrance to the school. Pupils will use these on entering and exiting the building.
  • Pupils will wash their hands at regular intervals throughout the day and there will be one way systems in place to minimise close contact. Where possible, pupils will be kept apart from one another in the building and we will discuss and remind pupils of hygiene routines around coughing/ sneezing/ physical contact etc. on a regular basis.
  • We will not be holding assemblies.
  • Children should NOT bring in toys etc. from home.
  • Only equipment, toys and resources that are easy to clean will be used in school.
  • Pedal operated bins will be provided and these will be emptied regularly.
  • Pupils will be kept in the same classes or groups as much as possible.
  • Where possible, pupils will not face one another whilst sitting at desks.
  • Break time and lunch time will be staggered to reduce the number of pupils in an area.
  • School lunches will be different. There will not be the usual three choices but you should still book lunches through ParentPay. If you have already ordered lunches through ParentPay please log back in and rebook from the new options. If there are any issues about ordering lunches please get in touch with the office on Monday.
  • Pupils are able to bring in packed lunches.
  • The outdoor environment will be used as much as possible for teaching and learning.
  • Government guidance states that high use areas, such as doors, desks, toilets etc. will be cleaned at least twice daily.
  • Staff will be provided with full PPE equipment. It will be up to individual staff to decide whether they wear this or not.
  • Pupils do not have to wear face coverings but can if they wish to.

We appreciate the late notice of this information may cause some inconvenience to you. We apologise for the delay in getting this to you but we have not been able to update you until we ourselves were given the information.
While uncertain times lie ahead, please rest assured we have the safety of your children as our priority. If you have any concerns or questions, please check the SBC website/ Facebook page or get in touch with us directly and we will do our best to respond.

From all the staff at Langlee Primary School.

Summer Activity Hubs

As we confirmed last week, our childcare hubs will continue to operate over the school summer holidays. These will be activity based and will run from Wednesday 1 July until Monday 10 August.
These will only be available for the children of key workers as listed in our key worker criteria where no alternative arrangements for childcare are available. Where there are two parents in a household both must be key workers.
Please note, from 22 June the hubs will operate from our secondary schools. During the summer hubs will be staffed by a mix of employees from across SBC, some summer students and Active Schools staff from Live Borders who will plan and organise an activity programme.
To help us understand how key worker parents plan to use this service over the summer we are asking those who have used the hubs to date to complete an online survey.
Details of how key workers will be able to book their children’s places will be communicated with parents/carers in due course.
It should be noted that due to wider COVID-19 implications Live Borders will be unable to provide its normal summer programme for young people in the Scottish Borders.

Current Childcare Hubs

As mentioned above, we will be moving our key worker parents/carers Childcare Hubs from their current locations to our secondary schools from Monday 22 June.
This will allow us to prepare those schools currently used as Hubs for the resumption of education when the new term starts in August.
If your child currently attends a childcare hub they can transfer to the new secondary school hub on 22 June where they will be supported by education staff, with who they will be familiar, for the final days of the school term.
The Early Years Hub locations largely remain the same, with changes to Selkirk and Galashiels hub locations.
Full details of the updated Childcare Hub locations are available here: http://ow.ly/Xcx130qQI90
The online booking form for week commencing Monday 22 June – which also contains the updated Childcare Hub locations - is available here: http://ow.ly/MhBD30qQI8s.
